Introduction

This course will introduce you to common practices of public speaking, and it will give you an opportunity to practice effective public communication and gain confidence. The first speech is a "get your feet wet" speech, introducing a classmate. The first major speech is an Information speech on a topic of your choice. The second major speech involves reading a selection of your choice. This is called Oral Interpretation. The third speech is a Group Symposium on a topic of global importance. You will work with classmates to execute this. The last major speech is on a controversial topic. You will try to persuade the class to agree with your point of view. You will be called to serve as a judge several times throughout the semester.
